Today I've been learning A LOT with our fishermen from Cedeira, Laxe and Corme.
Camped in front of the Galician Government in Compostela, they are
calling for fair distribution of quotas . No news at the moment from the Minister (who is in Brussels) nor from the President of the Xunta de Galicia.
They have received, they told me, lots of phone calls and visits from the media and political representatives of different organizations. Being fisherman is not an easy job, as they say "We should be treated like heroes, not like delinquents".
They all agree that it is necessary to look after our seas, and fish carefully and they speak about the sea full love and respect. They think it is essencial to renovate and restructure the Fishing policies and to have a fairer system of quotas all over Europe; also, they think that the lack of knowledge of our politicians makes it more difficult for them to value and support their work.
"It would be great for the politicians in charge of Fisheries, to be able to go fishing with us at least for one night... " they said to me... I totally agree. They deserve all our respect, recognition and support.
Estou totalmente dacordo. Merecen todo o noso respecto, recoñecemento e apoio.
This is a wee song for Ricardo, Suso, Victor and the others... who remembered waiting for their fathers on the quay
